MLK, TLC, IG, PC, & TI {a bunch of acronyms for your Monday}…

I’d be lying if I said that Monday didn’t sneak up on me a bit this week. Typically, we spend our Saturday out and about…relaxing and being together. And Sundays are left for being at home and getting ready for the week. But this past weekend, things were switched around. We had tickets to see Disney on Ice on Sunday…which became our out and about day…and I spent Saturday at home planning our homeschooling lessons for the next couple of weeks. We don’t follow a typical school calendar, but I was none-the-less happy to declare this MLK day an official school holiday in this house too and take an extra day to settle into the new week.

This winter has certainly had it’s fair share of these kinds of days. I feel like I’ve been taking extra moments {and sometimes days} to rest and re-energize. If nothing else, winter offers us the opportunities to lean into those pockets of time that we need extra rest and time to refocus. It is the natural season for rest after all…it’s our mammalian instinct to do so! And I’m relishing all the down time and quiet moments that this season offers to those willing to accept.

In addition to much needed TLC, this season has also been offering me inspiration in some rather unexpected places. Winter light {or lack thereof} is usually a point of frustration for this photographer’s heart. But this year, I’m finding myself fascinated by shadows and contrasts and the nuances of slight light…of which one can find in abundance with the sun so low in the sky. Not only that, but the colored skies of winter mornings and winter evenings have me absolutely in awe!

Another area of unexpected inspiration lies in my iphone camera. I am loving having an easy to use camera with me at all times. I’ve been capturing moments of life that I never would have relying solely on my SLR. I think that beautiful photography has its place {a very big place in my world}…but there’s a freedom in the ability to take non-perfect pictures of beautiful everyday moments. The camera is perhaps my favorite feature on my iphone…coupled with my favorite app…Instagram {aka: IG}!

Today, I have some images from my weekend to share with you that honor my new found love of imperfect camera photos, winter light, and blissful everyday moments…

I cannot neglect to tell you that I am at Paper Coterie today talking about mid-day fresh starts! Also, the second installment of the Thoughtfully Irrelevant collaboration is up and I promise you the connection is just as magical this week as it was last! {we’ve also made the site a bit easier to navigate…}

I wish you a Monday that is filled with all that you are craving…be it productivity or rest…and an abundance of blissful everyday moments!

I absolutely love your photos and you are so right about the low light of winter. I like what you said about winter being a time of rest…although my winter has been pretty busy. I, too, love my iPhone camera. I never realized what a perk that was…and instagram is amazing. Thank you for bringing calm, and peace to souls like me. I need it so much.

Beautiful post. I loved your “imperfect” photos. Seemed quite perfect to me. I took a long nap on the couch in the sun today. Kids at school and I have work tomorrow so I took advantage of doing nothing. I felt guilty for a bit but then I gave into it and felt nothing but peaceful. It was such a gift to have that time.

I am enjoying seeing your shots on instagram, it is addictive isn’t it and as you say, easy way to take pictures

It has been fun getting to “know” you and your beautiful photography through IG:)
