Knitting & Reading…

These post holiday, getting back into regular rhythm, trying to get caught up on everything that got neglected in December days are getting a little crazy around here. Last week I said that I would take Monday to get back into the swing of things. That same Monday afternoon, I conceded to doing my best to be back in sync by the end of the week. Could we just all decide that January will pretty much be an entire month of trying to regain footing? Pretty please???

Thankfully, the knitting and reading aspects of my life are serving to preserve my sanity and help me to settle life’s vertigo. I finished the Agnus that I was working on last week {I love it!} but I have not yet finished reading Sheepish. As I mentioned last week, I don’t love it. So I’m moving through it a little slower than I normally would. It doesn’t help that I keep getting distracted by poetry books right now. I don’t know what it is about the winter that makes me love poetry so much…I assume it has something to do with colder, quieter, darker days.

I have been slowly and reverently devouring John O’Donohue’s To Bless The Space Between Us. I’m going to go ahead and argue that it’s one of those books that everyone must own…everyone…must! It’s fantastic! His poetry flows like water, warms like sunshine, and comforts like hot tea. I use it in my journaling {you may remember me referencing it in the post about my Solstice ceremony}. I journal and then find a ‘blessing’ that seems to fit what I’m working through…and honestly, the fit is always so good that I spend an entire week just going back and re-reading that one ‘blessing’.

And speaking of Solstice and working through…I have begun a Solstice sweater. I have mixed feelings about this endeavour…it’s not a simple knit. But it’s intricate and challenging…I like it…but it takes a lot of my attention and energy. I thought about frogging it when I began to comprehend how complicated the pattern is at first. But I think I’ll stick with it. I may start another project for those times when I just need some peaceful knitting to pass time or calm my soul. And I’ll keep chipping away at the Solstice as I feel able. I’m using Quince’s Osprey in Parsley.  {and in case you’re wondering, I’m a total Quince snob, I use their yarn 90% of the time, and I should totally be getting a commision from them!…but I’m not!}

I’m linking up with Ginny’s Yarn Along…so if you like hearing about what other people are knitting and reading, you should head over and check out her post! But feel free to tell me what you’re working on and/or what you’re reading in the comments…I’m crazy about that sort of thing!

Such a lovely color green. I like having a few easy projects and a difficult one on the needles so that depending on mood and allotted time, I can choose. It helps with becoming too bored. Of course, it also means a lot of unfinished projects…

oh what a beautiful color for your cardy!!! Gorgeous!

I haven’t been by in ages and so missed seeing your gorgeous photos. You take such mesmerizing pictures and the way you weave your writing into your images …or vice versa is so gorgeous. Beautiful post friend.

No knitting here. I’m waiting to deliver a baby so I can feel my hands again (carpol tunnel) so I can sew some blankets and whatever else my heart desires. I am finishing up reading “Grace for the good girl” by Emily Freeman. I find it a peacful read, definately calming for my ever impatient body and soul at the moment.

My post holiday has set in a fear that I have set myself up to fail in this first month of 2012, because this is the year I am going to “get it right”: reading, journaling, daily walking, creating, nurturing….oh, yeah, I am drowning on this 11th day of a new year that is to be spent on good intentions. I read a brilliant post, too late, about declaring January the month to clear, to cancel obligations, to remove clutter, reflect on 2011, decide plans for 2012….that all sounds so very sensible, and sadly I have 11 months to wait for a new beginning with 2013, where I have already decided January 2013 is for hibernation and reflection. Assuming I can tread water long enough to survive the chaotic frenzy I’ve chosen for 2012.

i’ve admired that sweater on the Q & Co. website, but have always (and quickly) turned away because of the cables in it. something i REALLY need to teach myself how to do. i’m sure it’s going to look lovely when you’re finished.

Looks so good. I so love the colour.
Right now I am reading the shack by william p. young. inspirational read.
